Our Roadmap for the North East - Break the Monopoly

THE BIGGER PICTURE

How the Council Works

  • 20 wards across North Tyneside

  • 3 councillors per ward → 60 councillors total

  • 1 councillor per ward elected each May

  • Elections run for 3 years, followed by 1 fallow year (no elections)

The Current Situation

  • Labour: 50 councillors

  • Conservatives: 8 councillors

  • Independents: 2 councillors

  • This dominance means weak scrutiny, poor accountability, and limited challenge.

Our Roadmap - May 2026

Break the Monopoly

  • Contest every ward

  • Aim to win 20 seats

  • Result:

    • Labour: 39

    • Reform: 21

Outcome: Reform becomes the Official Opposition.

This is the turning point.

Win Control - May 2027

  • Repeat the strategy across all wards

  • Target council majority:

    • Reform: 41

    • Labour: 19

This delivers real change, not protest politics.
